DIY Smart Watering System: Keeping 24 Plants Happy for Over 16 Months

I created a smart watering system that has kept my 24 plants thriving for more than 16 months. Using only 78 liters of water every 10 days in Beirut weather, this system has proven to be efficient and effective in ensuring the well-being of my plants.

Here’s what we will need to recreate it:

Materials and Links where you can get them from Lebanon

  • Wi-Fi Smart Switch (DIY BASIC) Sonoff.
  • 25 water droppers.
  • PVC valves for pipe-1 and pipe-2.
  • Pipe-1: 27-meter water pipe 14.3- mm.
  • Pipe-2: 21-meter water pipe 3.8- mm.
  • 100-liter water tank.
  • 1 Bar water pump
  • Orbit hose clips (25.4 mm) to pipe-1 (Important: don’t use orbit for Liquid gas hose)
  • Valves to connect pipe1 and the tanks using PTFE taps
  • House’s electrical power.
  • Wi-Fi connection.
  • Water source

This DIY watering system utilises 25 water droppers connected to two separate pipelines. Pipe-1 consists of a 27-meter water pipe with a diameter of 14.3 mm, while pipe-2 is 3.8 mm and is made to be used indoors. The water is drawn from a 100-litter tank using a 1-bar water pump and distributed evenly to the plants. Orbit hose clips are used to secure pipe-1 in place. A valve controls the flow of water between Pipe-1 and the tanks.

With the addition of a Wi-Fi connection and a Wi-Fi Smart Switch (DIY BASIC), this system can be remotely controlled and monitored, making it convenient to ensure your plants receive the right amount of water even when you’re away. By conserving water and providing consistent care, this DIY smart watering system offers a sustainable solution for keeping your plants happy and healthy for the long term.
